I love this lipstick and it its not for the reason you might think. Winter Berry looks like a deep burgundy plum lipstick, it looks like its going to be a pigmented true colour lippie but its not and that's why I love it. Yes I know I'm going against the grain of beauty bloggers who love super duper pigmented lip products who slam lipsticks if they're not true to the bullet. Well not for me or at least not for this lippie. I love the fact that it gives a blush of colour. Its subtle and poignant all at the same time. I liked the fact that I can wear this without any foundation because its not so stark. I think Winter Berry is suitable for all skin tones - dark to light, medium to very light or very dark - this lipstick will suit you. However, what I did not love about this lipstick is its drying feeling - very drying especially in winter weather - so I would not recommend this to those who suffer from dry lips.
Note: Winter Berry is particularly drying more-so than Scarlet Siren - just like the others.
I know winter berry has mixed opinions in the review game. Some love it some hate it. Personally I'm really happy that MUA has made these matte lipsticks (giving them props) - hopefully more colours will be added that are ... um less pastel (if you've seen the collection you'll know what I mean). At the moment winter berry is my fav because its so sheer I can wear it without messing around with foundation, blush etc. (lazy me?), close second scarlet siren and then lilac belle - but that's for another time - till then :)
Heavy swatch - not normally this pigmented but for the colour to show up clearly I had to go over again and again. |
When wearing Winter Berry out once I found that it was very drying and it did make my lips feel uncomfortable. Thus, in future I will apply a lip balm over the top - yes it eradicates the matte feature but it'll save my lips (haha).
